## Understanding Water Supply in Witbank

eMalahleni — the name means 'place of coal' — sits at the centre of South Africa's coal belt, and its water reflects that. The town draws from the Witbank Dam on the Olifants River, a catchment carrying the cumulative discharge of decades of opencast and underground mining.
